Kitchen Cabinet Doors Evolution
The kitchen table has become the meeting place for many families to gather and discuss the events of the day. The kitchen, itself, is a relaxing room filled with family. The warmth of the room is enhanced with the kitchen cabinet doors used.
Before World War I, a kitchen did not usually have any cabinets. Often times a cabinet with a glass door held the dishes. Pantries were used. Pantries were typically rooms of the kitchen with shelves that held canned goods, kitchen supplies, flour and many times spices. Sometimes they even held brooms, mops and cleaning products. Of course, these were on separate shelves.
After World War II, more attention was placed on utilizing every inch of space in a home. This is how cabinets came to be a common kitchen fixture. The cabinets could be in any rectangular or square size. Cabinets could even be purchased separately. Many sizes were also available for these cabinets.
It was important to select an appropriate kitchen door for the cabinets. Doors are made out of stainless steel, fiberboard, solid wood or a mixture. The solid wood doors give the kitchen a feeling of warmth and of being at home. One can select almost any kind of wood he/she desires. There are some differences in price, such as, birch would be more expensive than pine. Solid wood doors can be treated so that the finish and appearance lasts for a long time with minimal care.
In addition to wood selection, it is also possible to choose from a variety of cabinet patterns. If the cabinet should require handles, there is another wide range of choices. Kitchen door handles come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Once again door handles are made in brass, wood and other materials.
The kitchen cabinet doors play a very important part in the decor of a kitchen. There are many choices available to select the perfect cabinet. A kitchen door can be found to suit any taste or lifestyle.
