Keeping Your Garage Building Organized

Garages are typically used as excess storage spaces for the homes they are attached to. While this is fine for the most part, it can lead to excess clutter for those who do not properly organize their items. Whether you have a mess right now or are expecting one in the future, you cannot go wrong with some well planned organization for your garage building. Here are some tips to help you keep your space as neat as possible.

Built in Shelves

You can actually increase the value of your garage if you build the right shelves within it. This cannot detract from the car storage abilities in any way if you are looking for increased value, but if all you need is some place to put your stuff, you can build just about anything you need. The back wall is usually the best place to put a built in shelving unit, but you can also go along one of the walls that the car doors open to, assuming you have the space. Two car garages usually work the best for these situations.

Overhead Storage

If you have not utilized the height of your garage, you may consider building some shelves there to put Christmas decorations, old baby furniture, and other items that you do not need every day. You must be sure to brace this shelving well in case it falls, but you do not need to concern yourself with how good it looks because it is in the garage. Then all you need is a ladder so you can access your stored belongings.

Pegboards

If you have tools, hats, or other items that you could hang on the wall, pegboards offer a versatile organization solution for your garage building. These boards are filled with evenly spread holes that you can put hooks in. Those hooks will hold anything you need to hang, and you can move them around quickly in case you need to re-organize. The hooks and the boards are both highly affordable, and they can be found in most home improvement stores. You can paint over the boards to match the walls or leave them as they are. That is entirely your decision.
