Heavier construction materials like steel and aluminum generally last longer and hold more weight than lightweight materials, such as most wood products. The fewer nuts, bolts, and screws required to hold the stool together, the better. Nuts, bolts, and especially screws tend to loosen and wear over time. In addition, the aluminum itself should be of the highest gauge possible. The thicker the tubing, the stronger and heavier the stool will is going to be.
