Rice Paper Window Film
Rice paper window film is a fantastic way to add an Asian or Oriental touch to any room. Rice paper is traditionally used in Japanese Tatami rooms, however it can be used very effectively in any room in the home. Often used more for decorative purposes than for privacy or security, it is actually very effective at providing both as well.
Rice paper window film is usually opaque, however just like frosted window film it does allow quite a bit of light through into the room. It is often sold with adhesive backing, making it extremely easy to put onto windows. You simply take the backing paper off the rice paper and press it up against the window, beginning at the top of the window and working your way down. If you are going to be adding it to large sized windows you will need a helper so that you can place it correctly on the window as once it sticks onto the pane it can be difficult to readjust.
Privacy frosted window film usually blends well with any type of décor, whereas the rice paper definitely does add a touch of the Orient to your room. Therefore you may find it helpful to have some other Oriental style furnishings or decorative objects in the room where the rice paper is added, although that is not strictly necessary. Sometimes even a simple Oriental vase will be enough to give it the continuity it needs so that it does not look out of place in a room.
There are usually quite a few different designs to choose from. A favorite with rice paper is the bamboo design. Other floral designs also work very well. As with frosted films you can also find rice paper that has a colored pattern though the colors used are often earth colors such as soft greens, blues and shades of brown.
Not all rice papers are opaque. If you prefer to add a more translucent film to your windows or sliding doors it is possible to find some although the more authentic type of rice paper is opaque. Considering that it is used to line the walls and windows in a Tatami room, which is often used as a bedroom, the need for an opaque film is fairly obvious.
