Reasons For Buying Fitted Bedroom Furniture

Fitted bedroom furniture has certain disadvantages when compared to flat-pack furniture. It is more expensive. It is also somewhat less flexible – once you install it, you can no longer move it. On the upside, fitted bedroom furniture designs make very efficient use of space. Normal flat-pack wardrobes often have some unused space on top. Normal beds with a solid bed-base or box-spring with no usable space underneath the mattress.

Of course, there is no real need to optimize your use of space if you have a large bedroom. Unfortunately, many modern homes are built rather small and cramped. Builders try to squeeze in as many houses and apartments into the land they own in order to maximize profits. This is why fitted master bedroom furniture has increased in popularity, especially with young couples buying their first home.

Fitted bedroom furniture basically comes with on of three different wardrobe designs. The first and most common is the full carcase built-in wardrobe. This kind of wardrobe needs to be installed against a completely flat wall with squared-off corners. In theory, you can dismantle it and take it with you when you move to a new house. Of course, your new bedroom needs to be the same size and shape for it to be practical.

The second type of wardrobe is the sliding door built-in wardrobe. Instead of the normal hinged door, it uses a sliding door. It is good for really cramped bedrooms where you cannot afford the clearance needed to open a hinged door. This is the wardrobe design you want to accompany your king-sized bed. It has the further advantages of being cheaper and easier to install than the full carcase built-in wardrobe.

The third type of wardrobe is the frame construction built-in wardrobe. Unlike the full carcase built-in wardrobe, it does not need a flat wall and it can handle corners that are not squared. It is almost like a custom-built wardrobe, except it is made from prefabricated parts. As may be expected, this kind of flexibility costs you more.

Buying fitted bedroom furniture is more expensive than buying flat-pack bedroom furniture. What you lose in flexibility, you gain back in more efficient use of space. Fitted furniture is best for smaller homes with cramped bedrooms.
