No-No’s to Avoid When Decorating the Baby Nursery

Decorating a bedroom for your new baby can be fun and exciting. As you’re picking out themes and colors the anticipation builds for the arrival of your new little one. But, here are some pitfalls to avoid as you’re setting up the baby nursery.

Don’t go overboard with the theme and I promise you, everything doesn’t have to match.
So, you’ve picked the theme for the  nursery. Well hey, that’s half the battle and you’re well on your way but I urgently caution you not to go overboard. By that I mean, a few well thought out themed accessories can make a room shine but too much and it just looks like your theme threw up in there. Also, everything doesn’t have to match. Sometimes you get stuck in this idea that the pictures must go with the bedding which in turn has to match the curtains which in turn has to match the carpet; things start to go wrong when this idea gets out of control.

Pastels, pastels, pastels
Pastels are a great color choice for a new nursery but you don’t want to saturate the room with so many pastels that you’re left with a bland, dull space.  First of all, remember that a newborn’s vision is not developed fully and bright colors and contrasting colors especially will help stimulate this development as your baby grows. So, be sure to include some striking colors in the room either in the nursery bedding, the curtains or the accessories.

Not thinking beyond the infant year
A really easy trap to fall into is creating a babies-only environment. Disney Babies might seem like a great idea right now because they’re cute and you’re focused on a tiny newborn baby but it won’t be long before that tiny newborn is a toddler and those Disney Babies are past their prime. The key is to find a theme, items that grow with your child. Items that grow with your baby are a great choice because, let’s face it, decorating can be expensive and babies aren’t little forever.

So remember to have fun at this time of your life as you set out to decorate the room that will nurture your baby and that you yourself will be spending quite a bit of time in. Just remember that moderation is the key and good planning will go a long way in making that baby nursery of your dreams.
