How To Install A New Lighting Fixture

Today we are going to be talking about how to install a chandelier and an outdoor sconce. If you have an old light fixture and want to replace it with a new one then this is the article for you. Before we begin to install the new light fixture we first must gather our materials and take out the old fixture.

The basic materials that we are going to need are a ladder, side cutters, wire strippers, electrical tape, wire nuts, Phillips and flat head screw drivers, hack saw, sheet rock saw, hammer, and a drill, before doing any type of electrical work turn off the power at the breaker box.

The first step in installing any new fixture is to take out the old one. To do this first find the covers screws and unscrew them. Next loosen the bracket, and disconnect the wires making sure to cover the ends and identify which is positive, neutral, and the ground. Now that you have this done unscrew the bracket completely and lower or take out the light fixture slowly making sure as not to damage the ceiling or wall. Now that we have the old fixture out it is time to begin installing the new light fixture.

If you are installing ceiling light fixtures such as black chandeliers you will need to make sure that you have the correct bracket to withstand the weight of the chandelier. If you do then all that you need to do is install the nipple and chain and wire up the chandelier with the wires from the wall. After you do this, install the cover over the chain by either using the screws or bolts that are provided with chandelier. Next you will want to install the bulbs into the chandelier and turn on the power. Make sure that you are using the correct wattage bulbs.

If you are installing a aluminum outdoor sconce then you are going to want to make sure that the bracket is compatible with your new sconce. If it is not all that you have to do is take out the old bracket and put in the one that came with your kit. Once you have done this attach the sconce barely to the bracket and connect your wires from the sconce to the wall. After doing this stuff the wires in the electrical box and finish tightening down your sconce to the wall bracket. After this tighten the cover screws and turn on the power.
