Gutter Cleaning

When you buy a home there are lots of little chores that come along with that responsibility. You no longer have apartment maintenance departments to lean on to keep your home in good condition. One of those chores is gutter cleaning. Your gutters are the aluminum troughs that run along your roof to catch rain water and melt water that runs off your roof. If the gutters were not there, the water would run off your house in sheets and make it very unpleasant to walk in and out of your home when it is raining. In addition, the water would saturate the ground right next to your home and endanger your home’s foundation. Gutter systems carry the water safely to downspouts which deposit the water on the ground away from the house’s foundation. Because they are open to the elements, gutters get clogged with leaves and other debris. As a result, they periodically need to be cleaned out to keep them operating properly.

You can choose to do this task yourself, or you can hire a professional grout cleaning service. If you hire someone, then make sure they ask certain questions when giving you your quote. Gutter cleaning cost depends on the linear feet of gutters that you have, which can be determined by knowing the square footage of your home. How many stories your house is will affect the price as well. If a gutter service gives you a number without finding out these basic pieces of information, then chances are they are not going to do a very good job because they charge the same amount of money no matter how big the job is. They are only going to do as much work as they think you have paid for, not necessarily to get the job done.

If you choose to do it yourself, make sure that you practice safe ladder procedures and wear gloves. Not only can you injure yourself if you fall from a ladder, but the mold and bacteria present in gutter goop can be harmful to your health. With use of the proper personal protective equipment and safe ladder usage, the gutter cleaning will be no problem.
