Garage Roofing Top Tips

Keep It Simple
A good and relatively easy way to get started with doing your own roofing work, is with garage roofing. the reason for this is, that garage roofs are often quite simple constructions. A single pitch roof clad with something like corrugated plastic roofing sheets is really one of the simplest ways to roof anything, but even a double pitched roof can be easy too – when it does not need windows, dormers, chimneys or other adornments which could complicate the construction. The simpler the roof is, the less difficult details there are – the less the chance of building something that is leaking, too weak – or even dangerous. In fact, the first tip for roofing a garage here would be to keep it simple!

Make A Drawing First
The key to successful work is always proper planning. When professional contractors build something new or to order, they always use detailed drawings as their guide. Quite simply, a good construction drawing is the blueprint for your roofing job and will serve as a test bench for the construction, before turning the raw garage roofing materials into reality. Even if you have no previous experience with making a construction drawing, try to at least make a few sketches and notes giving as much detail as to how you will build the roof. Just as you should measure twice and cut once, you should also know beforehand how the construction will be in details. This will dramtically decrease the risk of errors – which could either become expensive or even dangerous.

Know Your Garage Roofing Materials And Respect Them
This is common sense. Don’t let wooden trusses lie on your building site for weeks, exposed to the weather, bugs, theft, etc. By the time you build the roof the trusse could be almost unusable. Also don’t put heavy roofing materials on light constructions. Know how to construct trusses and rafters to support your materials of choice. Follow any and all instructions given with the materials – they are there for a reason. Don’t assume you know better than the pros!
