Finding Auger Rentals and Stump Grinder Rentals
Sometimes when you have a big job at hand, it is easier and actually more time and cost effective to rent power equipment to get the job done. Some power equipment it makes sense to own, but for most of the bigger machines, it makes sense to make use of the local rental shop. You can find stump grinder rentals or rent augers, sod cutters, aerators, even dump trucks. But today we’ll just talk about augers and stump grinders.
Stump grinders are fairly large machines. They are as small as a big mower and as big as a truck. Most of the stump grinders you will find in your local rental shop will be on the smaller side, but they still weigh about 1000 pounds. It will be necessary to have towing capacity, or have the rental company deliver. They are impressive machines, but the rental shop will train you in all the safety precautions and make sure you know how to properly run it. Be sure you have all the safety gear ready to go, like gloves, glasses, a safety helmet, a face shield, good foot wear, and hearing protection. If you are careful and are trained properly, you should have no problems.
Augers are for drilling holes in the ground. They are nice for fence hole digging, or holes for support beams for a deck, because you can get nice uniform holes in a fairly short amount of time. They are also convenient for measuring the depth of the hole as well. Most hand augers will drill to about 3 feet, but you can get extensions for up to one and a half feet. Augers are lighter than stump grinders, but it is usually nice to have two people in order to operate it. The way it works is like a very large screw drilling into the ground with the dirt being pulled up the threads of the screw. As it drills into the ground there is a great clockwise pull and the operator has to counteract that pull. The larger the diameter of the auger, the greater the pull will be. As the diameter exceeds about 8 inches, it will be necessary for a second person to help run the auger rental.
