Choosing A Patio Rug for Your Deck or Outside Space
Whether you are planning to decorate a patio or would like to have a rug outside the doorway to your home, you may be tempted to use one of your usual indoor rugs for this purpose. If you have done this in the past, you already know that it is a mistake. They can become permanently ruined. Choosing a rug that is specially made for outdoor use will give better results.
Currently, there are two materials commonly used for outdoor patio rugs. While there are others, rugs made of either polypropylene or duracord are the best. First, both of these materials can tolerate sunlight without any damage to the rug. While plain cotton and other similar materials easily fade, these synthetic materials are made to last. Even if you keep the rug outdoors throughout the summer, neither the sun’s rays nor the heat will damage it. The colors and designs will stay bright and beautiful throughout months or years of wear.
Second, indoor rugs are not meant to withstand moisture. In contrast, these synthetics will remain in excellent condition even if they are left out in the rain. As they dry rapidly, your rug will not become moldy, mildewed, or stained from moisture. If it gets wet, all you need to do is hang it on the clothesline, and allow it to dry.
Duracord and polypropylene outdoor rugs are also wonderfully easy to clean. They do not require any special care. A gentle washing with mild soap is all it takes to restore it to its original, clean condition.
As there are many different sizes, colors, and designs to choose from, you do not have to settle for bland plastic or rubber outdoor rugs. An attractive appearance that is easy to maintain can be found in fashionable styles. You can have the outdoor rug that is perfect for your home.
