Awnings and Canopies For Decks

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, then one thing to consider adding to your deck, patio or porch is an awning or canopy.  One of the most popular styles of overhead outdoor protection is roll up awnings, but you can also choose a stationary covering as well.  There are different models and styles to choose from and which one you choose will depend in part on how much you are looking to spend, whether you want the area permanently covered or want to be able to leave it exposed to the elements, and what material you would like the covering made from.

An awning that rolls back is very popular because it gives you the option of covering the deck or patio when you need some shade or it is raining, but it also allows you to retract the covering to leave it uncovered when that is your preference.  Most of these models are made from canvas or a treated fabric that resists moisture and mold and also resists fading from the sun.  An added bonus to these coverings is that you can choose from among a variety of attractive fabrics to add beauty to your outdoor space.

If you are looking to save a little money or want to have protection over your deck all of the time, then you may want to consider a deck canopy instead.  These models do not retract but remain stationary.  The support structure is attached to the side of the house and a set of metal or aluminum poles jut out from the house and then there are legs that support the covering on the open end.  These coverings also have canvas or fabric overhead, but the covering remains there all the time and cannot easily be removed, although you can usually take the fabric off for the winter and then put it back on in the spring.
