A Beginner’s Guide to Pressure Washer Wand Accessories
In this article, I’d like to take a moment to describe some of the available options that you can find when shopping for pressure washer wands. Most people that I’ve spoken to think that the wands are limited to the straightforward “stick” shape, acting essentially like over-glorified extensions for the washer, itself. (Excell pressure washers come with this type of wand). While there’s nothing wrong with the standard issue wands, these devices come in a far wider range of shapes and uses that one might expect. Therefore, let’s go through a couple of the most useful options available.
Wands With Telescoping Capability
The first type of wand on the list are the telescoping wands. The usual wand design is generally restricted to a certain length, but the telescoping units are often adjustable over a surprisingly wide range of lengths, making the device useful for a lot of different washing applications. As you can probably imagine, these telescoping wands are pretty flexible in terms of their use, and they are employed in up-close applications along with some tougher cleaning jobs which involve large heights.
Most of these wands can extend from a measly couple of feet all the way out to an impressive 30 feet. Do keep in mind that while this flexibility in length is a real boon in many pressure washing situations, it does come at a cost. Specifically, you have to watch out for pressure loss due to height. What this means in a practical sense is that you lose washing power the higher the wand is over the source of the water pressure (the pressure washer, itself). This means that you want to pay special attention to the “PSI” (pounds / sq. inch) rating of the telescoping wand to make sure that it is properly matched up with not only the pressure from the washing unit, itself, but also with the natural loss of pressure that occurs as a function of height.
Attachments for Cleaning the Gutter
Somewhat related to the telescoping units, you can also find wands that will help you clean around hard to reach corners. These gutter cleaning attachments work their magic by providing a flexible neck which you can form into any shape in order to get into tough areas. Keep in mind that that much like the telescoping attachments, some pressure loss can occur depending on how many bends you put in the neck.
While there are many other useful pressure washer attachments, the above two are perhaps the most useful ones available. Hopefully, they will at least jog your imagination and help you better find a solution to your washing needs.
